About
Tools built for people.
Some software is made to be read, forked and kept running by anyone. Some is run by a maker who wants it to exist more than they want a margin on it. buildforpeople.dev is a plain directory of both: open-source and low-profit tools.
What a listing tells you
Every project page answers the questions you would ask before you rely on a tool:
- How it is paid for. Open source, free, low-profit, or pay as you go for what you use.
- The license, as the project states it.
- How far along it is. Live, beta, still being built, or archived.
- Where to go next: the website, the source code when it is public, and the docs.
How it works today
In this first version the directory is curated by its maker: every listing is added and checked by hand. Submissions from other makers open soon.
The maker
Alve Rahman
PhD student in EECS. Research interests include the benefit of humanity, quantum computing and edge AI.
I have been working with AI since 2020. The tools I build come out of one habit I have kept since the inception of LLMs: verify what a chat model would otherwise just assert.
